What does a chiropractor treat?

Chiropractic care focuses on the muscles, joints and nervous system, most often the spine. At Innercore Health it is commonly used for:

  • Low back or neck pain, recent or long-standing
  • Joint stiffness and restricted movement
  • Headaches associated with neck tension
  • Injuries from sport, work or a motor vehicle accident, including WSIB and MVA cases
  • Recurring problems you want managed before they flare up

If you are not sure whether chiropractic is the right place to start, give the clinic a call before you book.

What happens at your first visit?

Your first appointment is an initial assessment and treatment, booked as a 45 minute visit. Follow-up chiropractic visits are 15 minutes. Your chiropractor starts with your history and an examination to understand what is causing the problem, then begins treatment.

Treatment is hands-on. Depending on what your chiropractor finds, it can include spinal adjustment, joint mobilization and soft tissue work. Before you leave, they explain what they found and what they recommend next.

Who provides chiropractic care at Innercore?

Innercore Health was founded in 2011 by Dr. Ken Hou, a chiropractor with a Bachelor of Science from McMaster University and a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. His approach combines spinal adjustment with acupuncture, soft tissue therapy and electrotherapy where the case calls for it.

He practises alongside Dr. Crystal Hynes, a chiropractor with over 18 years of clinical experience and additional training in concussion management. She treats the entire family, from babies and children to pregnant women and the elderly. Their full profiles are on our team page.

Common questions

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor in Ontario?

No. Chiropractors are primary contact providers in Ontario, so you can book directly. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse you, so check your plan if you intend to claim.

Can you bill my insurance directly?

We bill many extended health insurers directly. Where your plan allows direct billing, you pay only the part it does not cover. See our rates and insurance page for the list of insurers.

Does an adjustment hurt?

Most people do not find adjustments painful, and your chiropractor will only use techniques you are comfortable with. Some mild soreness afterwards, similar to after exercise, can happen and usually settles within a day.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on the problem. Your chiropractor will give you an estimate at your first assessment. Follow-up visits are 15 minutes.
