Fascial stretch therapy in London, Ontario.
Assisted stretching on a treatment table with Michael Pauwels, a registered massage therapist. You stay fully clothed and the therapist does the stretching.
What is fascial stretch therapy?
Fascial stretch therapy, often shortened to FST, is assisted stretching done on a treatment table. The therapist moves your arms and legs through gentle, wave-like stretches that focus on the fascia, the connective tissue around your muscles and joints, and on the joint capsules.
You do not do the stretching yourself. You lie on the table, relax and breathe while the therapist moves you, and each stretch is adjusted to what your body allows that day.
Who is fascial stretch therapy for?
- Athletes who want to maintain mobility through a season or before competition
- People whose flexibility has declined with age, desk work or inactivity
- People with limited range of motion after an injury, once acute healing has settled
- People whose muscles stay tight despite regular massage
You do not need to be an athlete to book a session. Michael Pauwels provides fascial stretch therapy at the clinic.
What happens during a session?
If you have not seen Michael before, book a 75-minute initial assessment. It starts with photo and video analysis of your posture and a movement screen to record your starting range of motion, which takes about 15 minutes. The rest of the session is treatment.
Follow-up sessions can be booked in 30, 45, 60 and 90 minute lengths.
Common questions
Is fascial stretch therapy the same as a massage?
No. Massage works on muscle and soft tissue with direct pressure. Fascial stretch therapy moves your joints and limbs through assisted stretches that focus on the fascia and joint capsules. Many people book both.
How often should I book fascial stretch therapy?
It depends on what you are working on. For a specific restriction, sessions are usually closer together at the start and then spaced out for maintenance. Your therapist will suggest how often to come after your initial assessment.
Is fascial stretch therapy covered by insurance?
At Innercore Health, fascial stretch therapy is delivered by a registered massage therapist and billed under massage therapy, so it is eligible under many extended health plans. Ask reception when you book and we will help you confirm what your plan covers.
What should I wear to fascial stretch therapy?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing you can move and stretch in. You stay fully clothed for the whole session.
