Massage therapy in London, Ontario.
Treatment with Michael Pauwels, registered massage therapist, at our clinic on Oxford Street East. Your first visit is a 75 minute initial assessment.
What does registered massage therapy help with?
Massage therapy at Innercore Health is provided by Michael Pauwels, a registered massage therapist (RMT). Registered massage therapists are regulated health professionals in Ontario.
It is commonly used for muscle tightness and tension, recovery after injury or hard training, circulation problems, neck and shoulder tension that comes with stress, and as ongoing support alongside chiropractic or osteopathic treatment.
What happens during a treatment?
Michael starts by reviewing your health history and asking what you want from the visit, then adjusts pressure and technique to what you are comfortable with. He may also use heat and sound in the room for your comfort.
What to wear and how long to book are covered in the questions below.
How often should you come?
It depends on your case. If you are working on a specific problem, treatments are usually closer together at the start and spaced out as things settle. If you are managing ongoing tension from work or training, a regular maintenance appointment is often enough.
Michael will recommend a schedule at your first visit, and will tell you when you no longer need to come as often.
How to get the most out of a treatment
- Tell your therapist what you want from the session. More pressure is not automatically better
- Speak up if anything is uncomfortable. Adjusting pressure or position during a treatment is normal
- Drink water afterwards, and avoid a hard workout straight after a deep treatment
- Mild soreness for a day afterwards can happen, particularly after a first treatment or deeper work
How massage fits into a care plan
Michael works in the same clinic as our chiropractors and osteopathic practitioners and, with your consent, they can compare notes on your case. If your muscle tension keeps coming back, or he finds something that needs a different kind of treatment, he can refer you to another practitioner here.
Common questions
Is massage therapy covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover treatment by a registered massage therapist, and a doctor’s note may be required under some plans. We bill many insurers directly, so where your plan allows it you pay only the portion it does not cover.
What should I wear to a massage appointment?
Whatever you are comfortable in. You choose how much clothing to remove, and draping with sheets is always used, so only the area being treated is uncovered. For a full body massage, underwear is typically recommended.
How long is a massage therapy appointment?
Your first visit is a 75 minute initial assessment. Follow-up treatments are 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes. A 30 minute treatment suits one focused area, such as the neck and shoulders. Book a longer session if you want more than one area treated or a fuller treatment.
What if I arrive late for a massage?
If you arrive late, you may be charged the full scheduled fee at Michael’s discretion. If he runs late, he will do his best to give you your full appointment time, with your consent.
